Walking to think
On what walking does to the mind.
By Pierre-Marie
There is, in walking, something that precedes thought. We set out believing we know where we're going, and we discover, along the way, what we were looking for without knowing it.
The rhythm
The rhythm of footsteps becomes that of the breath, then that of sentences. Ideas arrive less like decisions than like guests. We do not summon them: we make room for them.
What we bring back
When we come home we often have little to say. A few images, a particular light, an intuition. Sometimes that's enough.
